Submitted by Wagg on Mon, 15/02/2010 - 12:25.
Sunday, 19 January 1812
On the evening of 19th of January 1812 Wellington gave the order to 'Storm the breaches of Ciudad Rodrigo' . In a very fierce fight the town fell, as did 568 of the attackers including General 'Black Bob' Crawford, [Mortally wounded]. The town was given over to plunder and lawlessness until order was restored the following day. General Picton was seen to be laying about unruly troops with a broken musket butt.
