Thursday, 6 December 1792
On the 6th of December 1792 William Prince of Orange was born in The Hague. His father was William I of the Netherlands, his mother Wilhelmine of Prussia. William was to be the eldest of six children and would go on to become William II of the Netherlands.
Schooled in England, studied at Oxford and served in the Prussian and British armies. William was a brave and impetuous man.
In 1811 he became A.D.C. to Wellington in Spain. In 1814 he was briefly engaged to Princess Charlotte of Wales but the engagement was broken off because her mother Princess Caroline was against the match and Charlotte didn't want to leave England.
As commander of the First Corp's of the Anglo-Allied army he was wounded at Waterloo.
