On the 22nd of Feburary 1797 a French invasion force of 600 regular troops and 800 convicts landed at Carregwasted near Fishguard in Wales. The uniforms they wore had been English, captured at Quiberon in 1795 but were now died black. They were led by a mixture of French and Irish officers and commanded by an elderly American. Casulties were put at 4 Frenchmen 2 Welchmen.
The Invasion was not successful and could almost have been measured in hours.
