Saturday, 22 February 1800
A trial was held at Woolwich on the 22nd 0f Feburary 1800 to find a suitable standard pattern rifle for use in the army.
The model produced by Master gunsmith Ezekiel Baker of 24 Whitechapel Rd London was chosen. Baker had been apprenticed to the famous Henry Nock.
It was only in Victorian times that 'The Infantry Rifle' became known as 'A Baker Rifle.'
