Friday, 28 August 1812
On the 28th of August 1812 the Portuguese fortress town of Almeida surrendered to Marshal Neys troops. On the 27th, after a siege lasting less than a fortnight the main magazine blew up . So many casualties and such extensive damage was caused that the position was untenable and fell to the French
