Czar Alexander I born.

Tuesday, 23 December 1777
On the 23rd of December 1777 Alexander was born. As an adult he was described as '...tall, lusty, and well proportioned; his face is full and fair; his eyes are blue, and expressive of that beneficient mildness which is one of his prominant features of his charactor.'
In discharge of his public duties, Alexander displays great activity and acutness, but without show or any bustle. In fact he is so averse to parade, that he drives about in a plain chariot, of a dark olive colour, drawn by four horses, driven by a bearded coachman, and a common postillion, and attended by a single footman.
