On the 1st of Feburary 1814 Lord Byrons semi-autobiographal poem 'The Corsair' was published. It sold 10.000 copiesĀ on its first day.
This work introduced Conrad the pirate Captain as the first 'Byronic Hero'. He is willing to risk anything to rescue a Turkish slave, but will not stoop to dishonour.
