Coronation of the Emperor Napoleon
Submitted by Wagg on Sat, 03/10/2009 - 19:53.
Sunday, 2 December 1804
At Notre Dame Paris on the 2nd of December 1804 Napoleon Bonapart took the title Emperor. Although the Pope had been brought to the Capital to preform the ceremony, it was Bonaparte who took the crown and 'crowned himself'. In Davids painting Madame Mere is shown quite clearly even though she refused to attend.
