On the 29th of March 1809 the battle of Medellin was fought on the Portuguese frontier, French troops under Victor were attacked by Spanish troops under Cuesta. Although outnumbering the French by about one third the Spanish army had less guns and cavalry. A charge by French hussars routed the Spanish cavalry, Dragoons took care of the Spanish Infantry and Cuestas army colapsed and fled in panic.
