Monday, 16 January 1809
On the 16th of January 1809 the Battle of Corunna was fought between forces commanded by Sir John Moore and Marshal Soult. The battle came at the end of the famous 'Retreat to Corunna' and it was while rallying his rearguard that Moore was severly wounded,[dying the following day].
His army of 27,000 men were rescued by the Royal Navy and taken back to England.
