Friday, 1 October 1813
Early in the afternoon of the 1st of October 1813. Captain Daniel Cadoux and 70 riflemen of the 95th held the northern end of the bridge of Vera against an attack by around 10,000 French troops.
The French killed both sentries and rushed the bridge. Cadouxs men held their position fighting of repeated attacks and killing the French General Vandermaisen. Throught the afternoon and into the night requests for aid were sent to Skeretts brigade of the Light Division. None came.
Early the next day with only 2 casualties [the sentries] and no ammunition left Cadoux was forced to retire. Once in the open 16 men were killed, 45 wounded. One of the dead was the 95ths Gallent Captain.
