Battle of Albuera

Thursday, 16 May 1811
Fought between the French under Marshal Soult and the Allies under Marshal Beresford the Battle of Albuera took place on the 16th of May 1811.
The battle was hard fought with 8000 French and 6000 Allied casualties. A charge by Beresfords Fusilier brigade, [7th, 23rd Regt's] was celebrated with, 'Nothing could stop that astonishing infantry !'
It was an Allied victory, but only just.
