Tuesday, 22 April 1806
On the 22nd of April 1806 Admiral Villeneuve was found dead in his room at the Hotel de la Patrie Rennes. The man that Napoleon blamed for the loss of both French and Spanish Fleets had been in a 'poor and disturbed state of mind'. The six stab wounds in his chest clearly indicated suicide.
